I heard Linda Hamilton was to play Chuck's mother (hereafter, Frost) - but
didn't expect to see her this soon. Dulph Lundgren also surprised as guest
star villain of the week (I'd avoided spoilers beforehand, so had no idea).
I liked that Chuck was indeed going rogue spy - and including Morgan in the
deal. I think their excessive travel was over the top, and would have
rathered they were at least a little more competent. But then my main
disappointment was that they brought Casey and Sarah into the fold so
quickly AND that he's still signing up with CIA. He wasn't really given much
choice in the latter, but I was hoping he'd be more Orion-ish.

The Sarah/Casey inclusion thing may still be some fun, since we now have the
general as a real-life regular - so there'll still be lots of secret running
around. And of course, he'd broken his promise to Ellie. If he'd stayed a
rogue spy, I guess he'd still have broken his promise, but he at least could
have claimed that he wasn't a real spy. Not that big a deal, I guess.

The sexting scenes were funny - though, I was hoping to see Sarah's reaction
when realising it was Morgan.

Still lots of mystery around Frost... is she captive? Didn't look like it...
Did she defect? A double/triple agent? Under deep cover? Something much more
complicated? I'm sure we'll be made to think a variety of things before
finding out the truth. Good to see it end on a dark note - unlike Chuck,
Frost is certainly prepared to kill in cold blood.

No Big Mike or Jeff/Lester, though word is they are all returning (we didn't
see Captain Awesome either, but we know he's around - knocking Ellie up, and
all). I'm glad they didn't try to squash them in this ep for the sake of it.

All things considered, despite some misgivings, not a bad beginning. By
season-opener standards, I'd give it an 8.

Cheers,
Fleeced

I haven't seen it yet, but I didn't mind being spoiled for this show.

Is it really sf?

It has some sf elements. Obviously the premise is scifi-ish, in that Chuck
has all this knowledge zapped into his brain... I saw an interview on tv
with them at one of the conventions, actually (WorldCon, I think). They
seemed surprised to have been invited, and didn't seem to really consider
themselves sci-fi (though they acknowledged the sci-fi elements in the
show).

But sf stands for speculative fiction, which covers more than just sci-fi...
and I'd put a lot of (but not all) spy stuff under that umbrella too (eg,
Nikita).

I file my downloads for it under SF.

I suppose that was a silly question from me, considering the concept of what
was downloaded into Chuck's brain.
Tho apart from that it seems to me to be a light-hearted spy drama series.

Nice to hear from you again, Ian.
I haven't seen any posts from you for a while.
